FLAKE EPOXY FLOORS

Flake epoxy floors are a durable and visually appealing flooring option that combines the strength of epoxy with the texture and style of decorative vinyl or acrylic flakes. These flakes are broadcast over a freshly applied colored epoxy base coat, then sealed with one or more layers of clear topcoat for protection and shine. The process begins with thorough surface preparation—grinding or sanding the concrete to remove old coatings and contaminants, repairing cracks or chips, and cleaning the surface to ensure maximum adhesion. Once the base coat is applied, the flakes are spread evenly (or in a heavier “full broadcast” for complete coverage), creating a slip-resistant texture that also helps mask dirt, dust, and surface imperfections. A clear protective topcoat locks everything in, giving the floor both beauty and resilience.

Compared to metallic epoxy floors, which feature swirling, high-gloss designs for a luxurious and artistic look, flake epoxy floors prioritize function while still offering a clean and attractive finish. The textured surface of a flake floor provides better slip resistance, making it ideal for garages, workshops, and high-traffic commercial spaces. Metallic epoxy, while stunning, is typically smoother and more decorative, making it better suited for showrooms, offices, or residential areas where style is the focus. Both require the same detailed prep work for longevity, but flake epoxy is often chosen for its durability, ease of maintenance, and ability to conceal wear over time, whereas metallic epoxy is chosen for its bold, seamless, and custom-designed appearance.
